Skiing through the new year

A couple weeks ago Will and I went on an amazing trip with my sister, her husband, and my nephew! We decided this year that we want to start taking one trip a year together since we live so far away. We picked Ruidoso New Mexico! My brother-in-law, Austin, had been skiing/snowboarding there many times so he had all of the details ready for our trip. We booked a condo with a hot-tub and fireplace, which was amazing after a long day on the slopes!

Will and I flew into the great state of Texas early one morning and then drove to Ruidoso with Chelsea, Austin and Holsten. After a long day (only 7 hours) of driving, we had made it! We took forever to find our cabin, but once we did we couldn’t wait to get inside. So naturally, when we walked in, the whole place smelled like gas. This was very unfortunate considering we had just driven most of the day and we were ready to settle in, and considering we had our sweet nephew with us and he was only a few months old. We contacted the rental place and they were more than accommodating in finding us somewhere new to stay within an hour.

The new place was AMAZING! Two beautiful fireplaces, amazing deck with a hot tub, beautiful living room, and even more amazing views. We could not have asked for a better place to start our yearly tradition!

The next couple of days we drove up to the mountain where we all snowboarded, while taking turns inside with the baby. The first couple hours were definitely the hardest, I had NO idea what I was doing or how to even begin learning…keep in mind I was so out of shape from hardly ever working out throughout grad school. Once we got the hang of it, it was some of the most fun we have had just flying down the mountain and learning how not to kill ourselves while coming off the lifts. Austin is a pro and is flying down blacks…we stuck to our greens 🙂 Will, as usual, caught on extremely fast within the first couple hours and was instantly addicted, I don’t think he came in for more than an hour each day! After boarding all day, we would come back to our beautiful cabin and relax, cook dinner, and unwind in the hot tub–seriously perfect!!

Overall, this was one of our favorite trips we have taken so far. Just spending time with family, having a fun place to relax, and learning something new was totally worth everything! We can’t wait for what our next trip will be!
